Shaheen Bagh dispensary inaugurated by MLA Amanatullah Khan

Okhla, Delhi

Delhi government’s Urban Primary Health Centre was inaugurated in Shaheen Bagh today afternoon by the Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan. Although the Department of Health has sanctioned for the establishment of a local dispensary for the benefit of residents of Abul Fazal Enclave almost a year back but its realization did not take place due to non-availability of a suitable premises for the proposed health centre.

When the matter was brought in the knowledge of Abdul Rashid Agwan, the convener of a network of social activists of Okhla area named Volunteers of Change, he assigned further enquiry about the matter to an associate of the network Anis Saifi. Anis, who also runs an NGO in Batla House area, gave further details after contacting different officials about the government decision and some volunteers had started searching a suitable place for the dispensary.

After much effort, the ground floor of the house of an associate of the Volunteers of Change, T.H. Ansari, was found suitable and also available for such an establishment. It was also found convenient for residents of both the parts of Abul Fazal Enclave being in their centre. After several inspections of the officials of the Department of Health, it got the go-ahead.

On 1st June the incharge doctor and his staffs occupied the space and started working at the Urban Primary Health Centre, A27, Shaheen Bagh, near Thokar No. 6 on the Kalindi Kunj Road. Finally the health center has been formally inaugurated today by Amanatullah Khan and the incharge of Committee of Senior Citizens of Volunteers of Change Dr Sayed Khalid Ahmad cut the ribbon while opening the dispensary for public. On this occasion senior member of the network Salahuddin and incharge of the Health Committee Dr MA Johar were also present apart from several residents and the first lot of patients.

The incharge of the health center Dr Ansari told that one lady doctor will be appointed at the dispensary soon. He told that apart from check up and treatment, normal diagnostic facilities will also remain available there.

It should be noted that the Resident Welfare Association of Abul Fazl Enclave (A-D Blocks) has dedicated last week a plot for the establishment of Mohalla Clinic, a flagship project of the Delhi Government. Thus, the residents of Abul Fazl Enclave will be benefitted soon from both these healthcare facilities of the state government. The government dispensary in Batla House is already providing health services to the residents of Okhla/Jamia Nagar for last several years; however, due to increasing crowd of patients there was need for additional dispensaries in the area. Now, one such health center has been opened for the benefit of around one thousand residents of Abul Fazl Enclave, Shaheen Bagh, Jasola, Shram Vihar, etc.
